Aferdita Hakaj joined Poly Prep’s Advancement Office in 2022 to help reenergize the Art Center Campaign and Party Book community-building initiative. In 2023, she was named Director of Annual Giving. With her, she brings 20 years of experience in independent schools and human rights/humanitarian affairs, as well as a wealth of interdisciplinary skills. Aferdita studied International Affairs, Economics, and Law at John Jay College, Cambridge University, and Penn State Dickinson Law School.
She attributes her career journey to having been a curious young girl who wanted to make an impact and who learned policy implementation is driven by people who share a responsibility to serve a greater purpose. In advancing Poly’s mission of ‘Diversity, Excellence, and Brooklyn,’ Aferdita believes that the people are at the heart of the school. In her role of supporting school initiatives in service of our students, she fosters community building by creating meaningful partnerships among students, parents, grandparents, alumni, faculty/staff, and friends. She seeks to create a strong, collaborative environment in which all of Poly will thrive.
Aferdita loves outdoor nature activities such as hiking and swimming. She is passionate about traveling and immersing in other cultures. Aferdita enjoys cooking, entertaining, reading, and expressive artistry.
